So somewhat last minute we decided to take a trip to Niagara Falls. We had talked about it but never really set a date or planned it but early in the week last week we finally decided to go. I had Friday off so we left late Thursday night and drove to Niagara Falls and got there about 1:30 a.m. The kids slept pretty much the entire way which makes the drive sooooooooooo much easier.
We got up Friday morning in no kind of hurry and had breakfast at the hotel. After getting dressed we walked over to the falls stopping to buy Jacen his own disposable camera along the way. We stayed on the American side because Shanna's passport expired but we certainly enjoyed the view. We took the Maid of the Mist boat ride and absolutely loved it. Jacen stayed on the side of the boat the entire time just fascinated with everything. Ian was not too impressed and cried everytime the mist hit his face which was pretty much the entire time. We went to the observation point and took more pictures and walked around a bit more then headed back to the hotel for naps.
After naps we headed to a very small Indian restaurant (basically someone's house with extra tables) for dinner. The food was decent but they weren't ready to be open yet. There was no air conditioning at all and the service was pretty bad. We headed back to the hotel and swam for a while then headed upstairs to get ready for bed.
Saturday morning we headed back over to the falls. The plan was that I would take Jacen and Ian over to the Canadian side and Shanna would hang out with Linley on the American side. But Ian obviously wasn't feeling well so Shanna, Ian, and Linley went back to the hotel where Ian fell asleep immediately. Jacen and I decided to stay on the American side and ride the trolley around the park. We took some more pictures then as the park was getting EXTREMELY crowded we met back up with Shanna and headed home.
Well, we started to anyway. Ian got sicker and threw up. We went to grocery store to buy some medicine and pedialyte when he threw up again. Eventually he fell asleep and we finally able to get on the road. It took us about 4 1/2 hours to get to New York and almost 6 to get back home. All in all it was a great trip. We loved walking around the falls with kids and Jacen and Ian had a great time. Pictures below!
Jacen hamming it up for the camera.
Shanna and the kids by the river just before the American falls.
Jacen LOVED taking pictures with his camera (mostly of New York's finest trash cans). As soon as we get them developed we'll try to post some here.
Shanna and Linley by the falls.
Shanna on the Maid of the Mist.
That's Jacen there squeezed inbetween all those adults. He was pretty much glued to the rail the entire boat ride.
That's me trying to get Ian's hood up and paying the price for it.
Shanna and the kids in front of the American falls; Horseshoe Falls are in the background. And of course Jacen with his camera.
It's hard to tell unless you look closely (click on the picture for a larger version) but check out Shanna's hair. It looks as if that railing is electrified.
